Travel inspirations

Cassie DePecol is the first documented woman to travel to every sovereign nation & she did it by the age of 27 – which is pretty amazing (http://cassiedepecol.com)! So I’m quite fascinated by her choice of top 10 countries that she thinks everyone should visit…..
Mongolia – remote wilderness yep that does it for me!
Bhutan – already on my 2020 year out wishlist in the Far East
The Maldives – the most amazing sandbanks in the world
Vanuatu – apparently has the most friendly people ever
Pakistan – also already on my wishlist
Oman – has a real sense of mystery about it
Tunisia – has never really appealed to me but Sidi Bou Said – the town of artists, does look incredibly beautiful
Peru – need I say more? I think everyone knows how I feel about Peru already ♥
Costa Rica – Jungles and volcanos, yes please!
USA – Cassie, specifically mentions New England, and I must say that New England in the fall must be simply stunning.

So I had a think about my top 10, not necessarily the best countries to go because I’ve only been to about 15 (& I’ve consciously not included any of them here, except the USA), but here’s my top 10 of ‘must visit’ places (in no particular order)……

1. Peru – I have always wanted to trek the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu, see Cusco and the fortress of  Sacsayhuaman, and swim in Lake Titicaca, the world’s highest lake.
2. Salem & Danvers  (Essex County) in Massachusetts – Home of the infamous Salem witch trials which began during the spring of 1692.  I’m Pagan so it’s a kinda natural ‘want’ to go and see the history first hand of somewhere so significant.
3. I’m going to combine quite a few countries with my next choice, as I’d like to take 2020 out to go travelling (as mentioned above) and the following countries on the itinerary –  Sri Lanka, India, Pakistan, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Laos, Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam.
4. South Africa – just so I can trek the Tsitsikamma & Jonkershoek Trails, and experience the incredible wildlife in its natural surroundings.
5. New Orleans in Louisiana (USA) – I have always wanted to go to Mardi Gras, take a steamboat down the  Mississippi River & delve into the mysteries surrounding Voodoo.
6. Finnish Lapland – Escaping to Rovaniemi in the far north, to stay in a remote log cabin by a frozen lake, watching the  Aurora Borealis.
7. St Petersburg, Russia –  The City of the Tsars, mysterious white nights, winding canals, magnificent palaces and stunning religious architectural feats.
8. The next two are ‘falls’ – the Iguazu Falls on the border of the Argentine province of Misiones & the Brazilian state of Paraná, and Angel Falls, the world’s highest uninterrupted waterfall, with a height of 979 meters and a plunge of 807 meters, dropping over the edge of the Auyantepui mountain in theCanaima National Park, Venezuela.
At one time I actually wanted to BASE jump Angel Falls – thankfully I’ve gone off that idea!
9. The Lofoten Islands, Norway – The land of the midnight sun, legendary fjords, wild oceans and jagged mountains…totally untamed.
10. The Yukon, north-west Canada – The Kluane National Park is home to Dall sheep, grizzly bears, moose, mountain goats and wolves, a true wilderness, what more could a girl want!
